Gingrich Helps Out at Fundraiser for Embattled Gilchrest

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich heartily praised nine-term incumbent Wayne T. Gilchrest at a major fundraiser for him Thursday night at the Westin Annapolis hotel to help him in a tough race the Marine veteran has with four other Republican challengers.
Two of Gilchrest’s opponents are political heavyweights: State Sens. Andy Harris and E.J. Pipkin, each of whom is vying to knock off Gilchrest in the Feb. 12th 1st Congressional District primary election. The event, attended by 150 people including former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, is estimated to have raised roughly $50,000.
