STATEMENT BY MCCAIN CAMPAIGN ON MITT ROMNEY'S ATTACKS ON JOHN MCCAIN

McCain campaign Senior Policy Advisor Douglas Holtz-Eakin today issued the following statement on Governor Mitt Romney's attacks this morning on John McCain:

"Mitt Romney will apparently say anything in his desperate attempts to remake himself in the eyes of voters. This morning, Mitt Romney went so far as to claim about John McCain: So we are different. I'm a conservative.'

"In 2006 Governor Romney signed into law Hillary Clinton's health care plan. Jonathan Gruber, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology economics professor who was an adviser to Romney on the state's health care reform plan said, Hillary's plan is just like the Massachusetts plan.'
"At stake in the November election is a conservative Republican vision of low taxes, rapid job growth and families in charge of health care. Governor Romney's record is the opposite: raising taxes, sluggish job growth and a Democrat's big government health plan. His record speaks louder than his words."
