You Know It's A Lie When They Can't Get Their Story Straight
Today, in New Mexico and Virginia, Barack Obama and Joe Biden accused John McCain of trying to cut Medicare services and benefits. Yet, it is clear that they are just making the attack up when Barack Obama and Joe Biden cite two entirely different numbers in making the same attack. Please see below when Barack Obama and Joe Biden pull numbers out of thin air:
STORY #1: Barack Obama Cites A $882 Billion Number
Barack Obama: John McCain Will Cut $882 Billion. OBAMA: "But the Wall Street Journal recently reported that it's actually worse than we thought. It turns out, Senator McCain would pay for part of his plan by making drastic cuts in Medicare -- $882 billion worth. $882 billion in Medicare cuts to pay for an ill-conceived health care plan, even as Medicare already faces a looming shortfall." (Barack Obama, Remarks As Prepared For Delivery, Roanoke, VA, 10/17/08)
STORY #2: Joe Biden Cites An Entirely Different Number - $3.2 Trillion
Joe Biden: John McCain Will Cut $3.2 Trillion. BIDEN: "And now we find out Gov. that John wants to cut has to cut over the next ten years $3.2 trillion out of Medicare in order to pay for his program. So, he's going to pay for this voucher for people who are already doing relatively well by taking it away from Medicare." (Joe Biden, Remarks, Mesilla, NM, 10/17/08)
