U. S. Representative Nathan Deal (R) announced this morning in Gainesville (Hall County) that he would be running for Georgia Governor.
Deal is a former Democrat and state senator. He is one of the most senior Republicans in Georgia's congressional delegation. Deal was elected to Congress in 1992.
Five other Republicans have already officially entered the race: State Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine, GA Secretary of State Karen Handel, State Senator Eric Johnson, State Representative Austin Scott and Ray McBerry.
