The Fred Thompson lifeboat in Georgia just a little lighter.
Senate President pro tem Eric Johnson of Savannah, the ranking Republican in that chamber and one of the leaders of the draft-Fred movement last year, is switching to presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

Huckabee Blames Thompson for His Second Place Showing as GOP Candidate Race Against McCain
One day after a disappointing second place finish in South Carolina, Mike Huckabee got back in the saddle Sunday to party at the ranch of action movie icon Chuck Norris, and repeated a claim by his campaign chairman that Fred Thompson was his biggest barrier to defeating John McCain in the Palmetto State.

Fred Thompson - Word is out..
The word is out that Thompson is going to concede on Monday. He had a poor showing in South Carolina. Listening to his speech last night after enough of the results had come in was almost painful. In my humble estimation his strategy to wait until late in the cycle doomed him from the start. Everyone else had already courted the press, courted the strong worker bees and donors in the Republican Party and it was difficult for him to get a toe hold.
We'll see if rumors zinging around the Internet are true re: Monday's concession. Without a win in South Carolina he'd have to have more money than Romney to be viable.

Thompson: Statement from Communications Director Todd Harris
Thompson Campaign Communications Director Todd Harris released the following statement on tonight's New Hampshire Primary results:
"Tonight's results, with no clear frontrunner, prove the GOP nomination is wide open. The next battlefield is South Carolina, where voters are far more conservative than in New Hampshire and deeply concerned about illegal immigration in America. Fred Thompson is uniquely positioned for victory in the Southern states. He is the only true conservative with a plan to end illegal immigration and protect our sovereignty."

Fred Thompson Announces Endorsement of Right to Life of Wyoming
Today Fred Thompson announced the endorsement of Right to Life of Wyoming.
"We're proud to endorse Senator Thompson for president because he has a long track record of supporting pro-life principles," stated Steven Ertelt, President of Right to Life of Wyoming.
"Senator Thompson had a 100% pro-life voting record during his tenure in Congress. Today, he supports overturning the Roe v Wade decision which allowed for unlimited abortions, he opposes euthanasia, and he opposes forcing taxpayers to fund scientific research that requires the destruction of human life."
Right to Life of Wyoming (RTLW) is the state affiliate of the National Right to Life Committee which has endorsed Senator Thompson for President, along with 13 other state affiliates.
"I'm blessed and honored to have the endorsement of the Right to Life of Wyoming for President of the United States," said Senator Thompson. "Thirteen right to life organizations from coast to coast have voted to endorse my candidacy, and more likely will, because they know I have stood with them yesterday, I stand with them today, and will stand with them tomorrow. They know I have the ability to win this election. They know I believe in the sanctity of life and as President I will do all that I can do to protect life."
Fred Thompson is pro-life. He believes in the sanctity of human life and that every life is worthy of respect. He had a 100% pro-life voting record in the Senate and believes Roe v. Wade was a bad decision that ought to be overturned. He consistently opposed federal funding to promote or pay for abortion and supported the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act, the Child Custody Protection Act, and President Reagan's Mexico City policy. While Fred Thompson supports adult stem cell research, he opposes embryonic stem cell research. He also opposes human cloning.

Fred Thompson Note to Supporters
Yesterday was an amazing day! We got a ticket to the next dance!
We beat expectations and the "experts" and finished third.
I started on the Iowa bus tour nearly three weeks ago. We barnstormed through more than 50 cities and towns, covering many miles. I visited town squares, diners, fire stations, local newspapers and more.
I took my message directly to the people and they responded...and that's why we are going on to win this election. After two national debates in New Hampshire over the weekend we will be heading to South Carolina.
But I will be honest. I must have your help.
The resources that we invested there were well spent, but have left the cupboard a little bare. We had a strong showing but we've got some more ground to cover.
My old pickup has driven me to victory twice in Tennessee and with the fill-up you provided last week, it drove my message home to the voters of Iowa.
The day after Christmas I challenged you to fund my media campaign. Once again the media scoffed at what we were trying to accomplish--they said Americans don't give to campaigns the week after Christmas. It's another one of those rules that I don't care too much for.
Well, guess what?
Over those next three days, 4,465 Americans responded to the challenge, and invested in our consistent conservative message. The total we raised was $297,238!
Once again, we challenged the conventional wisdom and the so called experts, and proved them wrong.
Now I need your help again. I'm in this race for the long haul and I want to win.
The next target in our sights is South Carolina. It has always been critical to our plan for victory.
Like in Iowa, we have a strong organization there. And again, I will be back on the bus, visiting key cities and towns, talking directly to the people.
Television advertising is critical to our success. I need your help to make sure that we have the resources to capitalize on our momentum and take our message to the airwaves.
Once again, I'm calling on my friends.
As an official online "Friend of Fred" here's what I need you to do:
Forward this message along with a personal appeal of your own to 10 friends. Encourage them to sign up online and become a friend as well.
Encourage those friends to contribute.
Make a contribution for the first time--give $50, $75 or $100 today.
If you have contributed before, match a previous contribution.
Beginning now, for the next 7 days, we need to nearly double our last challenge.
I need your help to increase our budget by $539,492.
I also need your help adding to our tremendous online community. I want to get as many people on board to hear the news of this campaign directly from me, and not through the filter of the main stream media. I want to increase our Friends by 50,000.
When we hit that goal, we will be able to reach the voters that we need...our conservative message will get out.
Every penny will go to South Carolina media. Every penny will move us one step closer to victory.
We did it before. And today we have the momentum. Let's do it again.
I've got to have your support to make it happen. We're a team.
On to victory!
Sincerely,
Fred Thompson

Fred Thompson Note to Supporters
It's been a long day in Iowa and our supporters were terrific! A special thank you to all of our volunteers in the state and those who phoned for Fred from your homes.
Soon Fred will be heading to New Hampshire, ready to bring his consistent conservative message to voters in the Granite State for two weekend debates before loading the bus back up and heading down to South Carolina.
Fred is working hard! His 50 stop bus tour through Iowa allowed him to take his message directly to the people, and they responded. He will continue working hard and talking about his vision for our country, meeting face to face with the folks who will cast the votes that will decide this election.
Fred's policy proposals and his stances on the issues that matter in this campaign remain the most consistent and impressive of all the candidates. He's got the wind at his back and is poised to make a serious move.
Your support has been vital to our success. Thank you for being a part of the team! Now is not the time to ease up, we need you now more than ever.
Fred is in this race to win. He is working hard. He needs your continued support. Thanks for all you have done.
On to victory!!

William B. Lacy

Fred Thompson Note to Supporters
Today is the big day--Iowa Caucus Day!
And--once again--we need your help.Fred is poised for a strong finish. Pollster John Zogby reports a late Fred surge.
But Fred needs your help.
Get out your Christmas card list, your PDA, your Rolodex--any list you might have of families and friends in Iowa. If you don't know anyone in Iowa, you can visit our website and make calls today on Fred's behalf.
Call them.
Now.
Tell them you believe in Fred and why.
Ask them to caucus for Fred tonight. If they need information have them call our Iowa State Headquarters at 515-276-9427.
This is really important because Fred can do well tonight. Why?
1.Fred is making a huge effort at the end, concluding our two week bus tour that will have visited over 50 key Iowa cities and towns and hitting media markets that contain 75% of the GOP caucus participants. Click here for the latest recap from the road.
2. We have an incredible ground game that utilizes hundreds of volunteers from Iowa, Tennessee and tons of other places. All were out yesterday working hard for Fred in spite of two degree temperatures! Today, they are out again.
3. Fred has key endorsements from Congressman Steve King, a conservative icon in Iowa, and from conservative activist Bill Salier who had been chairing the Tancredo campaign.
4. Our TV spot, "Substance," will be seen by about 85% of caucus goers 13 times. Fred's message is getting through to the people we need to reach.
5. Finally, there has been a lot of interest in Fred's "Message to Iowa Voters" video, which has been viewed over 137,000 times on the Internet. You can also help us get ready for the next big push in South Carolina.
Please make a donation of $25, $50, $75 or $100 right now.
Every penny helps!
Donate today.
Sincerely,
William B. LacyCampaign Manager
